OA Day 2013 was held on Sunday 9th June and celebrated over 30 years of Aldenham Old Girls.
OAs, current and former staff and their families came together to enjoy looking back over the years since the first few girls joined the Sixth Form at Aldenham.
The meeting place for morning coffee was The Wells Centre, which opened in September 2012, providing new social and study areas for today's Sixth Formers as well as new classrooms and meeting spaces. A traditional Chapel service followed, with readings by Claire Yeabsley nee McCarty (K1988-90) and Hermione Bryer nee Cox (K1984-86). The service, conducted by Revd Andrew Stead, focused on the achievements of women in our society and Aldenham was congratulated on its success in attracting a steadily increasing number of girls to the School and providing opportunities for them to flourish.
A drinks reception in School House Garden was hosted by the Headmaster, James Fowler and the President of the OA Society, Neil Sutherland who welcomed the guests back to Aldenham for the day. After lunch in the Dining Room and time spent catching up on past times with friends, many stayed to tour their old House, identify faces in photographs and watch a 20/20 cricket match on Top Field - a close game, which was eventually clinched by the OA team. It was a busy day that saw a charity bike ride run through the grounds and also fives and tennis tournaments taking place with current students, parents and other visitors to the School.
Despite the unseasonably cool June temperatures there was a warm feeling at the event with much laughter, promises to return again and to keep in touch in the mean time.

The Headmaster, James Fowler had a delightful dinner with four OAs - James Corbett (SHE1954-57), Holden Lim (P1977-82), Kaveh Mehregan (P1977-82) & Neil Dave (SHE1981-84) at the Scala Bistro in San Francisco, California.
James accompanied his wife, Dr Charlotte Fowler to a conference being held in the city, as the School was on half term. The couple took the opportunity to organise an OA event before flying up to Canada to visit family for the rest of their trip.
A very enjoyable occaision was had by all.

The Headmaster, James Fowler & his wife, Dr Charlotte Fowler, were delighted to take the opportunity to have dinner with a small group of OAs while they were in San Francisco, where Charlotte was attending a conference. The numbers were low, possibly because the event fell on Memorial Day, an occasion when many families get together in the USA. This did not take away from the enjoyment of those who were able to meet up at the Scala Bistro for a convivial evening meal and it was appropriate that some members of Aldenham's extended family were able to join together on this special day. The OAs who were able to be there were: Holden Lim (P1977-82), Jim Corbett (SHE1954-57), Neil Dave (M2002-05) & Kaveh Mehregan (P1977-82).

Aldenham's current Headmaster, James Fowler, met Neil Sutherland, OA President and other members of the OA Society for lunch on board the Restaurant Ship Hispaniola on Monday 20th May '13.
The Upper Deck of the ship, which is permanently moored on Victoria Embankment, provided private dining for the group and came recommended by several OAs who had eaten there and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The venue offered a fabulous view of the River Thames, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament.
This event certainly proved a winner with those present and could be repeated next year, prior to a reception at St Paul's Cathedral, where the School Choir hopes to sing Evensong - watch this space for more information.

OAs gathered in London on Monday 20th May 2013 for a Regional Lunch on the Restaurant Ship Hispaniola. The Upper Deck of the ship, which is permanently moored on Victoria Embankment, provided private dining for the group, which numbered 37 in total. The Headmaster welcomed guests with pre-lunch drinks and a delightful three course lunch was enjoyed with much chatter between mouthfuls. The floating restaurant, which came recommended by several OAs who had eaten there and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, offered a fabulous view of the River Thames, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament. The event certainly proved a winner with those present with several raising their glasses to the next gathering! The Headmaster took the opportunity to give an update on current activities at Aldenham and to express his gratitude for the continued support and guidance that is often so readily provided by many OAs to the School and its students. Tony Laurenson (M1971-75) kindly hosted the aldenham.net OA business networking event, at his company premises in Chesham, Buckinghamshire on Thursday 2nd May 2013. 21 people gathered to share business experiences and network professionally, whilst also taking the opportunity to reminisce about school days and the avenues that their Aldenham education has opened up. The evening began with welcome drinks, provided by Global Infusion Group (GIG), followed by a presentation from Tony about his work and the importance of close networking. He highlighted the valuable connections he has with fellow OAs and listed over 22 individuals with whom he has developed valuable links. A tour of the GIG premises saw OAs and the Headmaster clambering into a mobile catering unit and gave those present an insight into the logistics behind feeding the masses who gathered at the London Olympics last summer. Old Aldenhamian Football Club Report - Season 2012/13

This season has been a very positive one. On a non-footballing front, the reputation of the club has gone from strength to strength, including a very positive report from the AFA to the Arthurian League regarding our behaviour and conduct “A credit to the Arthurian League” was a quote used by the AFA CEO, Mike Brown. Referees have been very positive and the clubs relationship with the league has been strengthened further with the appointment of Patrick Harding on the league committee.

There has been a good influx of new players like Matt Hudson (M2005-10) and Ben Selwyn (L2008-10) joining, as well as players like Ben Weinberg (L2002-09), Max Raby (L2004-11), Ollie Salami (B2004-09) and Gareth Thomas (K2004-09) regularly travelling back from University to play. There have also been notable appearances from current students, Kojo Addo, Jack Jones and James Greensmith, which have given the club a very strong pool of players to choose from.

The teams have performed well on the field. The first team has had a mixed season, the highlight being a superb comeback against Old Malvernians at home last October. They have flirted with promotion for most of the season but some inconsistency in the final few games means 4th place and Division 1 for next season. The team is young though and will only get stronger.

The second team on the other hand, has only lost two league games all season and currently sit 4 points clear at the top of division 3. Old Marlburians (semi-finalists of the Arthur Dunn Cup) have 3 games in hand though and are unlikely to slip up. So Promotion is guaranteed and that was the target at the beginning of the season. A 7-0 victory against Old Harrovians was probably the best football the club, let alone the 2nd team, has played all season. A tremendous performance.

So all in all, a very good season and the future of the club looks very bright.

Martyn Berg – Chairman OAFC

16 November 2012
The Annual Dinner on Friday 16th November was a great success. Nearly 90 people enjoyed the occasion and celebrated 10 November OA birthdays together. A drinks reception was held in The Wells Centre, which had been recently opened and current Praes showed guests around the new facilities. A pre-dinner concert, organised by John Wyatt, Director of Music provided an opportunity to see the extended music space in full use. Duncan Fraser (M1998-2005) completed the line up of Aldenham's talented musicians who performed in the concert.

Neil Sutherland, President, highlighted the broad age range of OAs present from 18 to 90. He said: "The atmosphere was the most relaxed ever and there was a real 'buzz' in the Dining Hall".

The Headmaster, James Fowler welcomed everyone back to the School and shared the most pleasing report he had been given earlier in the day, from Inspectors who had been in School all week. They had concluded that Aldenham is 'an excellent school' on all counts. More cause for celebration on the night!

Eight full tables accommodated OA Footballers, Five Players, Golfers and groups from Classes of 2003, 2005 and 1951. The excellent menu and service provided by the Brookwood team completed the evening.
