Christmas message from the OA President
21 December 2018
At this time of the year, we tend to reflect on events during the past twelve months and indeed this has been a busy year.
The OA Society Regional spring lunch held in the beautiful countryside of Stroud was well supported as indeed was OA Day in June hosted by Kennedy’s and Martineau’s with over 120 OAs and family attending. At Visitation Day a few weeks later, I met with those students on the cusp of leaving the secure routine and environment of Aldenham, full of apprehension, before venturing out into the larger world.
118 OAs and guests were at this year’s OA Dinner held at the School which meant the Dining Hall was full to capacity with ages ranging from 18 to 95. A splendid evening was kicked off by a drinks reception, followed by a live concert of music and song from current Aldenham students and OAs then a delicious three course Dinner. It was a great opportunity for OAs to catch up with friends old and new.
Last week I was pleased to be part of the Aldenham School Carol Service held in the ancient and majestic St Albans Abbey along with the whole school, parents, teaching staff and a number of OAs. The festive singing, music and readings were a memorable start to Christmas. A few days ago I attended the Presentation of A Level Certificates at the School, the first of its kind, which gave me a good opportunity to reconnect with some of those new OAs who had left Aldenham this summer and reassure them that being a member of the OA Society can be a lifelong journey.
There are now some 5,000 OAs spread over 150 countries and through the newly revamped website, this will help bring you all closer together.
It is evident that Aldenham can and does bring out the best in its students in helping them excel in their chosen talents and career path and indeed they are very fortunate to have those opportunities offered by the School to put them in good stead for the future. It makes me proud to be part of the Aldenham community.
I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you and your family best wishes for the Season, health and happiness for a prosperous 2019.
