Annual OA Dinner – March 2020
11 March 2020
The springtime Annual OA Dinner was a great success, and much enjoyed by almost 80 people. The evening began with a drinks reception in the Apthorp Room, where guests gathered to be greeted by the President and Headmaster. It was a special pleasure to see so many former members of the Common Room as well as OAs on this occasion, for a tribute in memory of Richard Jones (CR1962-98). In the Waddell Recital Room James James-Crook (M1968-72) welcomed everyone and introduced Richard Wood (CR1966-98), a contemporary of Richard Jones, who regaled stories and memories from ‘The Power behind the Thrones’, a great insight into the trials and tribulations for Housemasters (and their wives) and teachers at Aldenham. James James-Crook continued by recalling fond memories of his English A Level studies with Richard Jones. His rendition of Gus: The Theatre Cat by T. S. Elliot was masterful. James was joined by Adrian Bridge (P1971-75) to read messages sent from OAs and former staff who knew Richard. Impressive musical performances by two current students and Alice Erman (P2005-12) completed the memorial to one of Aldenham’s great teachers. The Dining Hall was cheerfully decorated with spring flowers, which made a change from the usual autumn colours used at previous dinners in November and the atmosphere throughout the evening was warm, happy and friendly – just what would you expect from OAs and Aldenham!
