Francis Robert Henn (SHE1934-39) has died aged 99

It is with much sadness to announce that Frank Henn (SHE1934-39) passed away on Thursday 15 October 2020 just weeks away from his 100th Birthday.
Being part of a notable family of Aldenhamians, Frank was the son of William Francis Henn (SH1905-11), School Captain at Aldenham 1910 and Editor of The Aldenhamian, Exhibitioner, Exhibitioner of Magdelene Coll. Camb. 1911; Egyptian Civil Service 1919. Cairo City Police 1920-30. Commandant Suez Canal Police 1930. Commandant Alexandria City Police 1930-37. Colonel (retired) Egyptian Service. Companion of the Orders of Ismail; the Nile and Crown of Italy; Knight of the Order of the Phoenix of Greece. Great War, Royal Munster Fusiliers; Capt.; Mentioned in despatches. MVO 1946; CBE 1955. Commander, Order of St. John.
Like his father before him, Frank was also a distinguished Aldenhamian and OA. Exhibitioner and School Prae. Football XI 1937-38; Hockey XI 1938-39. Captain of Swimming 1936-37. Captain of Boxing 1938-39. Captain of Sailing 1938-39. Major, 11th Hussars (Prince Albert’s Own). Mentioned in despatches 1956. Head of Staff and Chief Defence Staff, London 1969-72. Chief of Staff UN Forces in Cyprus and Commander, British Contingent 1972-74. Retired 1975 as Brigadier. Lectured widely on UN peacekeeping operations 1975-95.
Frank’s brother, William Bryan Henn (SHE1931-35) was a training captain with British European Airways Corporation and a Flying Instructor, AFC and Frank’s Uncle, Thomas Rice Henn CBE (SH1916-20), was President, Old Aldenhamian Society 1960-63 and a Governor of Aldenham School.
Frank attended the OA Regional Lunch at The Bell, Hampton Poyle, Oxfordshire on 20 April 2016 and said the School Grace.
There are five other OAs still listed on the database who are over 100 and John Jarman (P1934-37) celebrated his 100th birthday in September.
Frank leaves a daughter, Frances, and two grandchildren. Due to COVID-19 the funeral with be small and private. He will be missed by many.
